'cockroaches and stars'

Researching Eva Hesse on the suggestion of a friend who saw images of the ceramics posted the other day and Prussian Blue (the pigment created when making cyanotypes) is leading me into new territory...

Its looking like the kiln will be out of order for a long time. I took a few more shots of last project in dappled light between storms.

trying cyanotype prints on different materials - above, a page from an old book

...and on ceramic. The tile on the right was left in a tea bath overnight - it obliterated the image but left a rich, patinated brown.

layered cyanotypes

experimenting with layering manipulated inkjet prints and cyanotypes

taking hours to expose as no sun in the west country this week...

This print is less successful - I want to retry this again but with the tower blocks placed lower and the sky colour-split removed

Postcard - ceramics

double walled bowl, burnished black slip, sgraffito text. 16cm x 16cm.

No kiln still so not fired. Bit lumpy but as an experiment its getting there. I went away for a week and the pot dried out too much making the sgraffito not as fine as it should be (it got very scratchy and rough near the top). I learnt some good lessons about double-wall hand-building and like the generous shape as a canvas for text.

The text is the words of the poem 'The Moors' by John Clare. For the postcard project I was thinking about loss and change and no one sums up those two feeling better for me than Clare.
